Sherry Lee Trechter, 73, passed away following complications from hip replacement surgery, on March 10, 2025.

Sherry was the cherished daughter of the late Oliver E. Trechter and June Jacquins, who have predeceased her. Sherry had a rich and purposeful life dedicated to education and cultural exchange. She attended the University of California Irvine and went on to serve in the Peace Corps in Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa. After serving in the Peace Corps, she returned to the United States to earn her master's degree from UCLA in Los Angeles. Sherry taught for a year in Los Angeles before moving to Washington DC, where she went on to teach English as a Second Language at George Mason University for many years until her retirement in 2014, touching countless lives through her dedication to helping others bridge language barriers.

An avid cyclist for many years until her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, Sherry maintained her vibrant spirit and engagement with the world around her. She had a lifelong interest in language, public events, and politics and was a regular listener and supporter of NPR and Washington D.C.'s NPR station, WAMU.

Sherry was a lively conversationalist and raconteur with a sharp intellect and sense of humor. She remained vibrant and engaged until the time of her passing.

She is survived by her daughter, Iris, and son-in-law, Abe, of St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as their two young children; her brother, Tom, of Huntington Beach, California; and her step-mother Carolyn, of Tampa, Florida.

She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
