Sheldon Dennis Siper, a devoted family man and esteemed figure in the auction community, passed away on October 28, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on January 18, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, Sheldon was known for his vibrant personality which was characterized by his intelligence, outgoing nature, and remarkable sense of humor.
As a self-employed auctioneer, Sheldon dedicated much of his career to not only his business but also to supporting numerous charities, embodying a spirit of helping that was a hallmark of his character. His professional life was highlighted by three generations of his family working together at the auction house, a testament to his commitment to his trade and the cherished bonds he formed with his loved ones over the years.
Sheldon had many passions that enriched his life. He loved to travel and made notable trips to destinations such as Alaska and Israel, enjoyed the serene experience of river cruising. In addition to exploring the world, he found joy in coaching baseball, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport with the younger generations. He also pursued a variety of hobbies, including the collection of coins, stamps, and custom tea caddies—interests that reflected both his curiosity and appreciation for the finer things in life.
Sheldon was beloved as a devoted husband to Arlene, with whom he shared an extraordinary 63 years of marriage. Their bond was a beautiful testament to love and companionship, exemplifying commitment through countless shared experiences. He was deeply proud of his family, which included his son Randy and Randy’s wife Risa, along with their children, Benjamin (Carolyn) and Zachary. His legacy continued with his son Alan, who is married to Cynthia, and their children Rebecca (Daniel) and Daniel (Robin). Sheldon’s daughter Renay, who is married to Anthony, along with their children Justin (Cassidy), Alec, Jenna (who predeceased him), Victoria, and Jacob, all of whom were bright lights in his life. He also leaves behind a legacy in his great grandson, Samuel, who will undoubtedly carry forward the values and lessons imparted by his great grandfather. Sheldon is also fondly remembered by his beloved sister, Marilyn, and brother, Robert.
Sheldon leaves behind a rich legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. He touched the lives of many not just through his work and charitable contributions, but also through the warmth he showed as a father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His presence will be deeply missed, but he will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
