Sharon Skott Koenig, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at age 85.
Sharon was born on October 21, 1940, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Abraham Skott (z”l) and Annie Skott (z”l) and was a graduate of Grady High School. She met her beloved husband, Alan Koenig (z”l), on a blind date and they shared 55 wonderful years together.
To know Sharon was to know her love of and talent for food. She and Alan ran Eppis Essen, the premier Kosher catering company in Tampa Bay, for many years. Even after she retired from catering professionally, her family and friends benefited from the many batches of rugelach, blintzes, and marble cheesecake she continued to make. Her recipes and stories continue to live on through those lucky to have a copy of her cookbook, “Been There, Cooked That.”
Sharon continued to serve the Pinellas County Jewish community in her role as a mashgiach (Kosher supervisor). She was also an accomplished seamstress, an avid world traveler, and dedicated to her Marriage Encounter group. She had an amazing sense of humor, and never lost her quick wit with a one-liner. Most of all, Sharon loved her family, from her many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren, all the way to extended family she connected with around the world through Alan’s genealogy research.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Robyn (Mike) Shapiro, granddaughters Rachel Shapiro and Anna (Todd) Dahm, great-granddaughter Majel Dahm, and siblings Ivan (Lanee z”l) Skott, Pat Skott, and Myron (Cathy) Skott. She was predeceased by her husband Alan Koenig, daughter and son-in-law Pam and David Dotson, granddaughter Sarah Dotson, and siblings Rita Charak (Ike) and Mildred Pollack.
Funeral service will be in Woodbridge, New Jersey on Wednesday, October 7.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Menorah Life in St. Petersburg.
Condolences for the family can be left in the guestbook below.
