Marvin Elliot Leibson

Marvin Elliot Leibson, 101, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, and Detroit, MI, died Tuesday, October 14, 2025 (22 Tishrei 5786), after a rich and full life.

Born June 18,1924, in Detroit, MI, Marvin graduated from Central High School prior to serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He saw action as a combat engineer in the Philippines, New Guinea and Guam.

Upon Marvin’s return home, he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Detroit and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Wayne State University. Marvin also completed the requirements for and earned the title of Professional Engineer. He spent the majority of his working life as a nuclear engineer at Bettis Atomic Power Associates.

Marvin believed strongly in the values of Judaism, the responsibilities of being an American, and the obligations of service to his community. He spent countless hours as a synagogue youth adviser, member of the building committee, and general extra set of helping hands. He expressed his loyalty to America through his service during WWII and his work at Bettis for the U.S. Navy. He contributed to his communities as a Mason, Shriner and avid volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

Marv’s first wife, the late Bonnie (Vosko) Leibson, passed away in 1973. His second wife, Lee (Grossman) Leibson passed away in 2023. He is survived by his children: Lawrence Leibson (Miri Leibson) and Marsha/Meisha Leibson, grandchildren: Britt Tevis (Stas Budnitsky), Avi Shai Leibson, Orin Leibson (Na’ama Leibson), and Amit Leibson (Hadar Leibson) as well as five great-grandchildren, Aura Leibson, Avner Shai Leibson, Uri Leibson, Este Budnitsky and Elliott Budnitsky. He is also survived by his step-children: Garry Grossman (Beth Grossman), Sharon Ogburn (Greg Ogburn), and Cathy Grossman as well as grandchildren: Elyse Grossman, Julie Grossman, Jessica Hughes, Sophie Ogburn, Eliott, Grossman and Sam Grossman, plus step-great grandchildren Ben Grossman and Quentin Grossman.

Marvin was also preceded in death by his sister, Vera Leibson and his brother, Edward Leibson.

Funeral services will be held at Congregation B’nai Israel, 300 58th Street North, St. Petersburg, Florida, 33710, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, 12905 Wild Acres Road, Largo, Florida 33773.

Family and friends are invited for evening Shiva visitations Sunday through Thursday from 6:15 - 7:00 pm, with minyan at 6:30 pm at Congregation B’nai Israel.

Memorial contributions in Marvin’s name may be made to Menorah Life of St. Petersburg, FL, where he lived for the last year of his life, to Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Petersburg, FL, where he was beloved by the Men’s Club, or to your local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

The family would like to express its deepest appreciation and gratitude to Rabbi Lever and all of the staff at Menorah Life.
