Mark Klein passed away peacefully at home on the evening of February 18, 2026, at the age of 90.
Mark was born on October 8, 1935, to Eugene and Julie Klein (nee Gubner) in Newark, NJ,and grew up in Irvington and later West Orange, NJ. He graduated from Irvington High School in 1953 and went on to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University, earning a degree in Management in 1957. Mark began his professional career in the New Jersey hospitality industry as a sales director for the Davis White Company . Mark and his beloved wife Judy relocated to the Clearwater area in 1967, where he joined the Safety Harbor Spa — a resort owned in part by his family — as assistant manager. In the 1970 ’ s, Mark discovered what would become his lifelong passion – commercial real estate. After investing in commercial properties, he officially entered the field in 1974 as a commercial real estate specialist with Rogers & Cummings, Inc. He later became a branch manager when the firm was acquired by Merrill Lynch Realty. In 1983, alongside his partner D.F. “Buz” Heuchan, Jr. , Mark co - founded Klein & Heuchan, Inc., which grew to become one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the Tampa Bay area. Over more than 50 years in the industry, Mark proudly represented private clients and institutional organizations in the acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate assets throughout west central Florida. He deeply loved his work and the relationships be built along the way. Mark was equally dedicated to community service. He was a founding me member of the Florida Gulf Coast Association of Commercial Realtors ( F G C A R ) where he also served as a past president. He was also a director and past president of the former Clearwater Association of Realtors, where he was honored as Realtor of the Year in 1992. His commitment to service extended to his role as director of the Mease Hospital Board of Trustees, a former director of the Morton Plant Mease Hospital Foundation, a trustee of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas County, and a director of Temple B’nai Israel’s Board of Trustees. Alongside his long and distinguished career in commercial real estate, Mark built a remarkable record of service in the banking industry. He served as a director of Premier Community Bank and its parent company, PCB Bancorp Inc., until its sale to Colonial BancGroup in 2004. He was an organizing director of USAmeribank and its parent company, USAmeriBancorp, Inc., serving as chairman of the loan committee until its acquisition by Valley National Bancorp, Inc. in 2018. Mark was also a founding director of Flagship Bank and its parent company, West Florida Bank Corporation, directing the loan committee until his retirement in 2025. While commercial real estate was his passion, his greatest joy was his family.
