Karen G. Cohen

Karen G. Cohen of Tampa Florida, formerly of St. Petersburg passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2026 at her home. She was 75.

Karen was the second daughter of Elaine and Sydney Perman, both daughters born on July 4, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland. As identical twins, Robin always reminded her beloved sister Karen that being 5 minutes older, she did all the heavy work so Karen would have it easy.

While studying nursing, she was set up on a blind date with Steven Cohen, and he became the love of her life. She stood beside him through medical school and residency in Baltimore. Soon after, the two moved with their young daughters to St. Petersburg, Florida, where they built their life together.

Karen devoted herself to raising her daughters, staying home with them until they reached middle school, and then joined Steven's practice as a research coordinator. She was the steady voice on the other end of the phone, available to talk things through as many times a day as Sideara needed, and she helped Sideara find her path. She gave Alexis the confidence to leave home for college, and she was always ready with a pep talk through medical school and residency.

To her grandsons, Max and Avi, she was Bubbe, and she recently moved so she could be nearer to them. Her love for her husband never wavered through his career, his retirement, his long illness, and his death last year. In the midst of her own grief, she did everything she could to support her daughters.

Karen will be deeply missed by her daughter, Sideara Rose Cohen of St.Petersburg; her daughter Alexis Cohen-Oram, son-in-law Matthew Oram, and grandsons Max and Avi Cohen-Oram of Tampa, Fl; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mitchell and Linda Cohen of Riverview, FL; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gail Cohen and Ron Kaz, of Boise, ID; her niece, Amy Kamish of Lithia, FL; her brother, Neil Perman of Lumberton, NJ, and her brother-in-law, Jan Abrams, of Pikesville, MD.

Her much loved dog and constant companion, Betsy, will miss her human and will continue to be cared for by her loving family.

And perhaps most of all, she will be missed by her identical twin sister and "womb-mate," Robin Abrams, of Pikesville, MD.

May her memory be a blessing.
