Judy K. Umeck

Judy K. Umeck, a devoted friend, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in Largo, Florida. Born on December 20, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, Judy's life was marked by her unwavering passion for teaching, her vibrant personality, and her deep love for those around her.

With a distinguished career spanning 41 years, Judy dedicated herself to shaping young minds as an honors English teacher. She passionately inspired her students at Chattahoochee High School, where she not only taught but also ran the high school newspaper, fostering a love for writing and journalism in countless students. Her enthusiasm for education extended beyond the classroom; she also played a pivotal role at the Clearwater Yacht Club as both a newspaper coordinator and photographer, capturing the essence of the community she loved.

Judy's commitment to fostering growth and joy didn't stop at education. She helped establish Bow Chasers as a sailing club dedicated to teaching children the joys of sailing, and she organized water aerobics classes, bringing health and wellness to her community. Her generous spirit was reflected in her fun-loving character; she was known for her themed parties in her neighborhood, where laughter and joy were always present.

A woman of many interests, Judy was an avid swimmer at Clearwater Beach and found joy in the energy of Zumba classes. She was also a devoted supporter of Ohio State football, relishing the camaraderie of tailgating with friends and family during game days.

Judy's heart was as expansive as her talents. She had a special bond with her beloved cat, Cassie, who was a constant companion and source of comfort. Her caring nature was evident in her willingness to always put others before herself, embodying a spirit that truly sparkled.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Alaina Umeck; her sister, Deborah Houser; her brother, Jack Hill, and sister-in-law, Kari Hill; and her loving boyfriend, Pete Naimo. Judy was preceded in death by her father, John Hill Sr.; mother, Lois Cacchio; and husband, William R. Umeck.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Judy K. Umeck will take place on July 20, 2025, at Clearwater Yacht Club, located at 830 Bayway Blvd, Clearwater, FL, at 5:00PM. This gathering will serve as a tribute to her remarkable life, allowing friends and family to come together to celebrate the memories and impact she left on all who knew her.
