Janis Sabel, an administrative assistant, compassionate advocate, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Born on December 28, 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio, Janis led a life marked by dedication to her family, her friends, her work, and her many passions. Janis's professional career was centered around her role as an Administrative Assistant for a Certified Public Accountant, where she was known for her efficiency, attention to detail, and support of the firm’s clients. Beyond her professional life, Janis was committed to helping others, particularly in matters related to hearing loss, sharing her experience to support individuals facing the same challenges. A lifetime member of Hadassah, Janis was also involved with the Colorado Jewish Women's Group and the Hebrew Education Alliance in Colorado. These affiliations reflected her strong connection to her Jewish heritage. Janis lived most of her adult life in Denver, Colorado where she honed her creative talents. Her hobbies included creating and selling jewelry and the intricate arts of sewing, knitting, and crocheting—skills she embraced with enthusiasm and shared with others around her. Janis’s proudest accomplishments were centered on her family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved son, Matthew Sabel; her sister Randi Kraus; her sister, Louise Aswell (Cecil); and her brother, Russ Kraus (Susan). Their lives were enriched by her love, guidance, and generous spirit. She was preceded in death by her father, George Kraus; her biological father, Meyer Horwitz; and her mother, Pearl Kraus. The legacy Janis leaves behind is one of devotion, kindness, and tikkun olam.
Though Janis has left this world, her memory lives on through the many lives she touched, both personally and professionally. Her commitment to her family, her friends, her community, and her passions will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
