Howard J. Reich, a talented and respected professional musician, passed away on October 16, 2024, at Menorah Life in St. Petersburg, Florida. Born on March 18, 1925, in Newark, New Jersey, Howard made an indelible mark on the world of music and left behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family and friends.

Howard studied at Juilliard following high school before leaving to tour the country, showcasing his remarkable trumpet skills with legendary figures such as Benny Goodman and performing with Tommy Dorsey, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. His passion for music endeared him to many, and he will be remembered for the joy and artistry he brought to countless performances which continued throughout his life well into his eighth decade.

Beyond his musical talents, Howard was also an astute salesman. He was a dedicated family man who took pride in his accomplishments on and off the stage. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing bingo, and loved the intellectual challenge of solving crossword puzzles. These pursuits brought him great happiness and allowed him to connect with friends and family in meaningful ways.

Howard is survived by his beloved sons, Jack (Melanie) Cary (Karen), and Eric (Geri z”l). A legacy of love, music and talent continues through his grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Brandon, Yael, Ariel, Avi, Jordan (Yohay), Hannah Nathan and great grandchildren Naama and Tamar who will carry forward his spirit and memory.

He is also remembered by his dear sisters-in-law, Judi Gordon (Dr. Mark) and Susan Kozicharow (Alex z”l).

Howard is predeceased by his first wife Barbara z"l, his long time companion Jacqueline Newman z"l, and his sister Natalie Victoria Lozowick z"l ( Jules z"l). He is also fondly remembered by his second wife Sandy Reich.

As we celebrate the life of Howard J. Reich, we honor his contributions to music and cherish the years shared with him. His passion and dedication to his craft, alongside his deep love for family, make him a truly unforgettable figure in the hearts of those who knew him.

Graveside funeral will take place October 30th at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, New Jersey. There will be a Shivah minyan that evening at Temple Sinai of Bergen County in Tenafly from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

If you would like to make a donation in Howard's memory, it can be made to Ruth Eckerd Hall Jazz education scholarship fund, supporting their youth jazz band and summer camps, or to a charity of your choosing 

There will be a Shivah minyan at the home of Cary and Karen Reich on Thursday, October 31st at 6:30 PM, Saturday November 2nd at 7:30 PM and Sunday November 3rd at 6:30 PM.
