Hani 'Helen' Kahan, a cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in Seminole, Florida, at the age of 102. Born on May 20, 1923, in Romania, Helen's remarkable journey through life was marked by resilience and dedication, particularly as a Holocaust Survivor.
Throughout her career, Helen excelled as a Payroll Manager, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence in every task she undertook. Her professional accomplishments were a testament to her unwavering determination and tenacity.
Beyond her career, Helen was deeply passionate about teaching and educating others about the Holocaust, ensuring that the lessons and memories from this harrowing period in history would not be forgotten. She was a devoted member of Congregation B'nai Israel of St. Petersburg and its sisterhood, and she also participated actively in ORT, Hadassah and the Florida Holocaust Museum. These affiliations reflect her commitment to community service and advocacy for her heritage.
Helen's interests extended far beyond her professional and communal endeavors. She found joy in needlework, gardening, reading and baseball, activities that allowed her to express her creativity and appreciate the beauty of life. A true lover of the arts, she enjoyed attending the theatre with her friends which provided her with countless hours of entertainment.
Helen is survived by her loving son, Lucian (Roberta) Kahan, and her devoted daughter, Livia (Stephen) Wein. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: David (Rachel) Wein, Matthew (Lisa) Wein, Scott (Piper Hendricks) Kahan, Howie (Rachel) Kahan, and Michelle (Andre) Toussaint. Additionally, she will be lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Noah, Eitan, Penelope, Lucy, Alex, Josh, Coleman, Toby, Aliyah, Juliet, and Everly.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kalman, who she cherished throughout their life together. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1:00PM Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Congregation B'nai Israel, 300 58th Street North, St. Petersburg FL. Private burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Largo, Florida
